The City of Madison Common Council Adopts 2024 Budget Supporting Mayor Bob Courtneys Key Priorities
The Common Council of the City of Madison voted 6-0, with one abstention, Councilman Storm, to adopt the 2024 budget. The $14.2 million budget prioritizes Madison’s Mayor Bob Courtney’s key initiatives, public safety, economic opportunity, and quality of life.
“The approved budget for 2024, while relatively flat compared to this year, still provides resources for our key initiatives. When the full city enterprise is considered, I have no doubt we will have another record year of accomplishments,” said Mayor Courtney.
The budget utilizes public-private partnerships and TIF dollars while leveraging additional funding sources such as state and federal grants, READI funding and ARPA funding to further invest in the city’s infrastructure, parks, public safety, and neighborhood revitalization.
2024 budget highlights include:
- Completing the Crystal Beach Aquatic Park construction.
- Opening the DG Market grocery store in downtown Madison to serve our residents and the greater Madison region.
- Continuing our investment in police and fire department resources and training as well as purchasing of a watercraft for port security.
- Utilizing CCMG funds and our data-driven approach to improve streets and sidewalks for residents and visitors while improving pedestrian safety across the city.
- Continuing to pursue and invest in solutions for stormwater and flood mitigation.
- Making upgrades to the city Transfer Station to improve efficiency and eliminate operation deficits.
- Completing the work on the city’s Clean Drinking Water Project.
- Updating neighborhood parks and planning for better usage of the Brown Gym.
