Professor Wu will give a brief history of traditional Chinese art by highlighting a few characteristic and long-lasting artistic traditions in China, including topics such as ceramics, jade, and bronze as the ancient roots of Chinese art, mortuary art and the quest for immortality, and the arts of the brush: painting and calligraphy.
Xiaolong Wu (Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh), Associate Professor of art and art history at Hanover College, specializes in Asian Art History, with a focus on the art and archaeology of China and the art of Japan. His recent publications include Material Culture, Power, and Identity in Ancient China (Cambridge University Press, 2017). The Bicentennial Speaker Series presents experts speaking about timely topics on Thursdays.
