Department of Public Works
The City of Madison operates its own water and sewer utility and also provides comprehensive services through its Street Department. Those services include maintaining over 50 miles of streets, weekly garbage collection, weekly recycling and compost collection, street sweeping, leaf pickup, operation of a transfer station, and snow removal. To learn more about curbside pickup and the transfer station, click here.

The department also maintains street lighting, corrects certain storm water drainage issues, maintains city vehicles and large equipment, and replaces sidewalks.

The department is served by a crew of inmates from the local Indiana Corrections facility.
