Hanover College Basketball to Host Community Day!

Join us for the fun inside Collier Arena as the Panthers take on their Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival, Bluffton. Game times for the Dec. 9 doubleheader are 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., with the women playing first and the men to follow.

In lieu of an admission fee, the Salvation Army will be collecting donations in the lobby area of the Horner Center. The Hanover cheerleaders will also host a clinic for local elementary students earlier in the week and perform a routine at halftime of the men's basketball contest.

To go along with the on-court festivities, there will be a book signing in the main concourse area with Jared Rogers, who published a "best-of" stories book from his late grandfather, William H. "Gus" Moorhead, a 1951 graduate of Hanover College.

Moorhead was a four-year player for the varsity basketball team at Hanover and was also a member of the track & field squad. He later went on to coach at local high schools, Versailles and South Ripley, for 17 seasons, winning four sectional titles.

Rogers has published some of Gus' best stories on Indiana basketball from his time working for the Ripley Publishing newspapers, which includes rich history of Madison and Hanover basketball. For more information on the Rogers' publication, "The Ol' Coach Sez: Essential Indiana Basketball Coaches," visit the book summary above.

The Hanover basketball teams swept the home doubleheader against Anderson in last year's Community Day, with the men winning 88-86 and the women recording a 68-49 triumph over the HCAC foe.

This season, the Panther men are currently 4-1 overall and ranked No. 7 in the D3hoops.com National Top 25 poll. They are also coming off their first NCAA Division III Tournament Elite Eight appearance in program history in 2016-17.

The Hanover women are off to their best five-game start since the 2014-15 season, winning three of their first five outings. They have also posted a 2-0 record at home this fall, outscoring their opponents by an average margin of 27.0 points per game.
