Community Relations
The director of Community Relations first and foremost acts as the City's liaison to Madison's many festivals, committees, non-profits, and other organizations. They also spearhead various efforts devoted to community development and improvement. Quality of life issues, such as housing, workforce development, recreation improvements, tourism and industrial/economic development, are also addressed. The Community Relations Director helps facilitate communication among different organizations and businesses as well as between the City and its citizens. They also work to help citizens know what is going on, what events, programs and services are available and what upcoming projects are being planned or discussed. It is the responsibility of this office to make sure that these messages get out to the community in many different ways. One of these ways includes social media. The City's efforts for social media outreach including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flickr. This position is appointed by the Mayor, and often serves as an outreach liaison from the Mayor's office.
