4th of July Fireworks

Independence day celebration 2020 BannerCelebrate the 4th of July at the City of Madison Independence Day Celebration! 

At 10:00 p.m. on July 4th the city will host the annual firework show on the Ohio River. Prior to the fireworks, local restaurants and shops will be open and ready to celebrate the holiday with our community.

Details:

The city is closing the entire riverfront on July 4th beginning at noon. This area will be reserved for pedestrian traffic only. Food trucks and live music will not be permitted on the riverfront, as we want to keep the area as open as possible to allow for individuals to social distance at the event. Those attending the fireworks show will have the opportunity to sit in our riverfront parks, on the riverfront, and along Vaughn Drive. Lawn chairs and coolers are welcome. Additional picnic tables will be placed in all riverfront parks. Chairs, blankets, and tents are not permitted on the north lane of Vaughn Drive to allow access for emergency vehicles. 

Downtown Events:

The city encourages residents and visitors to take advantage of everything our local businesses have to offer. Many local restaurants and shops will be offer 4th of July weekend specials. A few will be hosting music and food trucks. 

Music & Food:

Bello’s: XL 3 topping pizza for $15.

Galena Garlic Company: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Offering samples, 5/$30 Spices & Blends, and 3/$45 Oils & Balsamics.

Hinkle’s: Open until at least 12 a.m. on the 4th.

Historic Broadway Hotel and Tavern: Hosting a Broadway Block Party from 2 p.m.-11 p.m.

Mad Paddle Brewery: 20% off 32 oz Mason Jar or 32 oz Crowler. 30% off when you provide a clean Growler. Saturday Night Music - Charlie & Margo from 7:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. 

Madison Music Movement: Mulberry Street will be closed for a block party. Featuring live music and possibly food trucks. Details are still being finalized.

Little Golden Fox: Extended hours and pottery painting available. Double D BBQ will be outback from 5 p.m-8 p.m.

Scoops: Extended hours and offering a special 4th of July ice cream.

Street Closures:

Vaughn Drive from Ferry Street to Vernon Street will be closed from noon to midnight on July 4th. This area will be reserved for pedestrian traffic only. Golf carts are not permitted in this area.

Broadway Street from Vaughn Drive to the Brown Gym will be closed from noon to midnight on July 4th. This area will be reserved for golf cart parking only.  

Parking:

The north side of Bicentennial Park will be reserved for handicap parking only

City Boat Ramp:

The City Boat Ramp will be accessible until 5:00 p.m. At 5:00 p.m. the ramp will be closed until midnight.

What time do the fireworks start? 10:00 p.m.

Is there a cost? No, the firework show is free to the entire community. 

Will there be a 4th of July Parade? No, there will not be a 4th of July parade this year.

Can I bring a cooler? Absolutely. You can also bring carry-out down to the river. All riverfront parks will have additional picnic tables for the day.

Will there be food trucks? There will not be food trucks on the riverfront, but some of our local businesses will be hosting food trucks. 

Will there live music on the riverfront? No, but there will be music on Broadway and Mulberry.

Will there be public restrooms? Yes, all city public restrooms will be open and additional restrooms and hand-washing station will be placed along the riverfront. 

Can I bring my dog(s)? For the safety of your pet and others, we recommend you leave your pets at home during the firework show. 

Will there be a VIP viewing area? No, we want everyone to have access to the entire riverfront.
